Another day in the long tradition of brown actors complaining about racism in Hollywood to cope with not being able to win over the diversity box themselves. You already had this with John Boyega, who whined about Star Wars being too white after years of failing to make a career after his DEI hire in the sequel trilogy. Now we have Shang-Chi actor Simu Liu complaining about Hollywood persecuting Asian talent in filmmaking because he can’t get anything good outside Marvel.
His reasoning that the film industry that strives to be gay and brown is being racist is that he actually believes movies would automatically be better by the mere presence of Asians, and he points out random Asian-made films that were successful from years ago as why in 2025 Hollywood is racist against Asian people.
Simu Liu took to Threads on Sunday to post a fiery message about the “backslide” of Asian representation in Hollywood. In the post, he included social media reports about Asian actors struggling to find fulfilling roles.
“Put some Asians in literally anything right now,” he wrote. “The amount of backslide in our representation onscreen is fucking appalling. Studios think we are risky.”
Despite this perceived risk, Liu listed several films starring Asian actors that were critical successes, including “Minari,” “Farewell,” “Past Lives,” “Everything Everywhere All At Once,” “Crazy Rich Asians” and his Marvel tentpole “Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings.”
He added, “Every single one a financial success. No Asian actor has ever lost a studio even close to 100 million dollars but a white dude will lose 200 million TWICE and roll right into the next tentpole lead.
We’re fighting a deeply prejudiced system. And most days it SUCKS.”
Liu has a history of being vocal on social media, especially when it comes to speaking out against right-leaning politics. He told Variety in a recent interview that he “should probably be more scared” of backlash, but his appetite to speak his mind and stand up for what he believes often overcomes his fears.
“I just feel like there’s something about the internet that makes people just crazy,” Liu said. “There’s something about the publicness of it and where people love being the guy to put someone else down [or] put an entire group of people down. I am so not for that energy.”
I looked into the films he claimed were successes that chink-hating executives are scared of, and most of them, apart from 2 movies he listed, bombed financially at the box office.

His gripe with White actors getting work after a film bombs is stupid since they are just paid to act in it and move on. Films fail because the production was shit or it’s a DEI honeypot that is destined to bomb.
It doesn’t really matter since Hollywood is shit, so it wouldn’t really make a difference if he gets his way or not. Ironically, if he stayed in Asia, he would be a part of films that outsold the sludge that the racist chuds from California keep funding.
Asians who refused to fall for the “American dream” are winning in entertainment. Meanwhile, this wetback will forever have to play a Marvel character before he’s thrown out for the next Chinese immigrant to play his character.
