Microsoft opens a new studio after killing Tango Gameworks

As someone who is more sympathetic to Microsoft despite not caring about console wars since all of the value of “exclusives” is going to be on PC regardless of how long they delay its port. Microsoft has been beginning to have more L’s than ever. Which is weird since the Activision deal should had been a high for them by how Tango Gameworks gave them their first Xbox exclusive game to actually be a hit in like a decade of mid.

Well now they killed Tango Gameworks for no reason other than muh management and “focus on making more games like Hi-Fi Rush” while killing the company that made it. While Hellblade 2 is getting some weird shit when its one week away from release. They haven’t been on best foot in their effort to recoup the 70 billion dollars they dropped on Activision.

Their solution to this crisis after killing the only worthwhile studio they had was to open a new studio in Poland to do what Tango GameWorks were told to do.

Game Developer

Microsoft subsidiary Activision has formed a new internal studio called Elsewhere Entertainment to create a “narrative-based and genre-defining triple-A franchise.”

Elsewhere is headquartered in Warsaw, Poland, and is described as a “premier and standalone studio.” The company’s debut project will be a brand new IP.

“The talented team at Elsewhere Entertainment consists of a collection of storytelling experts whose credits include The Last of Us, Uncharted, The Witcher, Cyberpunk, Destiny, Tom Clancy’s The Division, and Far Cry,” reads a short announcement.

“The new studio has full access to Activision’s resources and tools as it continues to increase production and development. Elsewhere is opening its search for best-in-class talent from across the industry and around the world to help create a state-of-the-art and next generation gaming experience.”

As we have seen in history whenever Microsoft opens a new studio it sadly does nothing at all. Remember when they announced the opening of The Initiative and how it will bring upon the Quad A era of gaming. Nothing came from it other than making a Perfect Dark reboot that still isn’t out yet.

From what I’ve seen with what is happening with CD Projekt Red right now safe to say its going to have the same problem.

Their mission was to create Games like Hi-Fi Rush why even kill the studio that made it and replace it with a new one?

Shortly after, Microsoft closed major Zenimax subsidaries Arkane Austin, Alpha Dog Games, and Tango Gameworks, the latter of which was still receiving plaudits for its work on Hi-Fi Rush. In a leaked email, Xbox Game Studios boss Matt Booty said the closures were “grounded in prioritizing high-impact titles and further investing in Bethesda’s portfolio of blockbuster games.”

Either way Microsoft is going to bail them out of this crisis in the end since when you have a 3 trillion dollar company Xbox can just buy any triple A boondoggle and do nothing with it. They don’t care about hyping the games they are making with Hellblade 2 getting this sudden hype after ghosting it for months.

Maybe this new studio could produce something good in the future. In the end though I’m still playing their games through gamepass on PC since they obviously don’t care about trying to revive the Xbox anymore.
