This generation’s console war has been an utter nothingburger since both Sony and Microsoft have accepted that PC gaming is now the main choice now with them releasing exclusives to the PC on recent years. Nintendo is the only one that is truly Console only and won’t be in the PC business for generations to come.

Its been 4 years since the release of the PS5 and Sony has announced that it’s halfway to the end of its lifecycle without any fanfare due to the fact that its not selling as hot as the PS4 was.

After sales of the PlayStation 5 failed to meet expectations, Sony has said the console is entering “the latter stage of its life cycle.”

Sony had set an ambitious target of 25 million PS5s sold during the current financial year ending March 31, 2025, but has now revised its forecast down to 21 million after PS5 sales during the crucial holiday 2023 quarter came in lower than expected despite aggressive promotions. Sony sold 8.2 million PS5s during the third quarter ending December 31, 2023, up from 7.1 million sold during the same quarter the previous year, but that was not enough to hit Sony’s lofty target.

According to Bloomberg, Sony senior vice president Naomi Matsuoka said the company now expects the sales pace of the PS5 to start falling from the next fiscal year, which begins April 2024 and runs until the end of March 2025.

“Looking ahead, PS5 will enter the latter stage of its life cycle,” Matsuoka is quoted as saying. “As such, we will put more emphasis on the balance between profitability and sales. For this reason, we expect the annual sales pace of PS5 hardware will start falling from the next fiscal year.”

Yeah its on its way out and many of the games will be on PC when the PS6 drops or even if the PS6 drops at all due to how disappointing the PS5 has been selling over its lifetime.

I don’t think that this years exclusives are going to make a splash in sales because lets face it the time of Console exclusives being the selling point has been dead since 2020.

The 10th generation is going to suck even harder don’t waste money and just wait it out for the games on the PS6 to be on PC later on.
