The Sassoons cornered the opium market and controlled 70% of the drug flow in China from Shanghai. When the Chinese Nationals were revolting against the use of opium being encouraged, the Sassoons lobbied the British for armed intervention: the 1st and 2nd Opium Wars

The Head of the Kadoories, Lawrence, sought to expand the family wealth post-japanese occupation by providing electricity to Shanghai, Hong Kong, and the coast. To this day the Chinese Light and Power Co. controls 70% of the energy in Hong Kong.

The Kadoories were so influential that the Communist Chinese Government contacted them in efforts to create the first Nuclear power plant in China, which still owned by the CLP.
