1 – Yeonmi Park, born October 4th 1993, is a popular North Korean defector and human rights activist who has become infamous for her harrowing tales of life in North Korea, but many have come to question the veracity of her stories. Are they true?

2 – Yeonmi Park escaped North Korea at just 14, claiming she crossed into China to flee from the horrible conditions in North Korea. She has recounted her escape as well as her childhood in NK many times, but often there are far too many discrepancies to be believed.

3 – Firstly, one of Yeonmi’s most popular accounts is of an execution she witnessed because a citizen watched an illegal film. However, the details of this story have changed many times – sometimes Park claims it was a James Bond film, other times a South Korean movie.

4 – Furthermore, reports from inside NK have made it abundantly clear that people are not “executed” for watching illegal films, only sent to re-education camps. Another disputed fact that Yeonmi routinely talks about is the death and subsequent burial of her father.

5 – Yeonmi Park has recounted 4 separate versions of her father’s death. These discrepancies have often not been accounted or explained, despite much criticism from followers alike. Yeonmi Park’s embellished and hyperbolized claims do not end here however.

6 – Yeonmi Park has claimed the following throughout her career (all of which have been debunked or heavily scrutinized): North Korean’s do not know the word “love,” North Koreans do not know what sex is, in order to drive a car in NK you must know how to build a car,..

7 – North Koreans have never heard music, gas station attendants in NK are paid more than doctors and lawyers, rivers in NK are regularly filled with dead bodies, and many more ludicrous fantasies.

8 – Yeonmi Park has utilized this rhetoric and others like it to push for harsh sanctions and economic liberalization on the tiny, isolationist nation.

9 – Yeonmi Park has routinely partnered with likeminded liberalized, “free-market” interventionists like PragerU, Koch Brothers funded “Atlas Network, and TPUSA in an attempt to spread Western ideals and influence eastward.

10 – Yeonmi Park’s lies are harmful to North Koreans – whom she has generalized as part of an authoritative hive mind, complicit in the supposed killing of thousands. It also backs corrupt and malignant Western regimes, who wish to crush opposition under their thumb.

11 – What many forget is that NK is a third world country, crushed by sanctions and famine – a nation whose pioneering goal is to better itself under a strong, nationalist banner. Park only serves as a detractor to that, utilizing falsehoods to prop up Western propaganda.

13 – Yeonmi Park serves as an example of a Western-backed foreign operative, whose “harrowing” tales captivate those who listen. The danger therein lies with her rhetoric – the sole purpose being the destruction of illiberal governments.
