A big victory for Silicon valley as Montana becomes the first US state to completely ban TikTok within their borders.
The Bill will also fine Apple and Google for hosting it in their app stores.
April 14 (Reuters) – Montana lawmakers on Friday passed a bill to ban popular short-form video app TikTok from operating in the state, the latest threat to the Chinese-owned app’s existence in the U.S.
The bill, known as SB 419, would prohibit mobile app stores from offering TikTok for download to users in Montana. The Montana House voted 54-43 to approve the ban.
TikTok as well as Apple and Google, which operate mobile app stores, would face fines if they violate the ban, should the bill become law.
I would doubt if Google and Apple would actually go through with this since they are trillion dollar companies and any fine they get is nothing to them.
I love how these people are complaining about “BigTech” censorship are also helping in Big Tech by banning its main competitor and for reasons that every other social media platform does.
TikTok is more understanding of “Free Speech” compared to these morons.
TikTok said in a statement: “We will continue to fight for TikTok users and creators in Montana whose livelihoods and First Amendment rights are threatened by this egregious government overreach.”
Boomers across the web are of course celebrating that Silicon valley is able to hold their monopoly on power.
To be fair if the opposition to TikTok was for the fact it has poisoned our youth into becoming freaks then I would be indifferent or even support it since I want to preserve the American Youth away from things that ruin them.
But they want it banned because they actually believe American citizens and the country as a whole are in peril because their daughters dance videos are being seen by some ByteDance employees in China.
The Chinese government has no need for TikTok dance videos or vids of trannies or people faking Tourette’s since they don’t have value to them. Meanwhile Twitter, Facebook, YouTube, and Google are selling your information to governments and corporations for years and we don’t see these people calling for them to be banned ever.
These boomers are so out of touch with technology that when the CEO of Bytedance went to the senate. They actually asked him to explain about TikTok connecting to WIFI.
Unless these guys are calling for every other app to be banned for “spying” (which they won’t since anti TikTok is a silicon Valley psyop) Then I’m for TikTok since it takes away the power of Big Tech.
